About Us

We are the Dugan's from Leonardville. We farm, collect antique tractors, E-Bay tractor parts, watching our girls grow like broadleaf weeds without 2-4-d ever having been applied. Our summers are filled with softball, tractor shows, tractor auctions - do you see a theme - We Are BUSY! I try to update as much as I can but there are just sometimes -well - I am busy. Welcome to a little glimpse of our world.

Pedro has Pneumonia

The story of Pedro. As some or most of you know - I have always called DD #2 Pedro - why - I don't know - when I was pregnant I wanted a boy - really really bad! Didn't get one - so when little Miss came out - red headed and green eyed - I immediately called her Pedro - It has stuck. I know I know - mean mom.

Anyways - Pedro had a slight cough last week - nothing major. She has major allergies like me and canker sores - terrible big bad ones when something big is about to happen - like her dad.

Anyways - off to Sylvan we went for our usual Sat morning - this time though Daddy was with us as we had a meeting with the director to follow up on how Pedro is doing. Wonderful news - she is doing great. As we are leaving Sylvan there are about 3 other small childen coughing up a storm, wiping slimy noses on shirt sleeves. Ughhh - as we are walkig to the car - the hound dog bark cough starts. I am thinking - OK - we can deal with this - allergies are high - no problem. Barking continues throughout the day - with a fever now by 8 pm.

Sunday morning we awake to have even more fever - higher - more barking like a coonhound. At this time DD #1 also states - My throat is raw - like burning to my toes raw. Great - I decide to load em up and take them to KSTAT around 1 on Sun. After seeing a Dr. he tells me it is viral, nothing to worry about, treat with ibu and Mucinex. I am thinking - no this can't be - are you sure there is nothing you can give me for the cough. Nothing can be given - just do the Mucinex - it will work. OK - so trot off to the big store and get said meds and drive home in the storm. (I will save that scary story for later).

Monday rolls around - Fever - coughing the whole thing - repeat of Sunday. She is up and around and still complaining of a throat that feels like someone stuck a knife in it. Great.

Tues rolls around - continuation of Monday. Same symptoms - Feeling on a scale of 1 to 10 is now an 8. OK - I call KSTAT back to see if the strep test came back negative or positive - A big old Negative. In talking with the nurse she is asking symptoms. Tells me to bring her back in. Great - just great. We arrive there at 5 after 5 pm and they immediately slap a mask on her for fear of a flu virus. After waiting almost an hour to get into a room, Dr comes in - looks like someone I could have babysat, and he starts asking all the questions. Fever - yes, coughing - yes (as she is having a coughing fit) - poops and runny nose - no. Listens to her and listens really good. Says he wants to do a influenza swab in her nose. OK - he puts a mask on and gloves - at this point I am thinking this is starting to get serious. Wait another half an hour - that test comes back negative. Now we treat her with a breathing machine and albuterol. wait wait waiting patiently. - Now I think it is safe to say - by this point my head is on the exam room table and I have fallen asleep -you see after three nights of no sleep - I am exhausted. He comes in and says - let's do an X-ray - I think it is pneumonia. so - wait wait wait - on the X-Rays to be developed. Yes - right lung is filled. Sooo - no school for at least two more days - recheck with our regular Dr on Thurs for the all clear to go back to school.

I will do another post later of the weather we drove in and on Charles' cluster headaches and softball.

Softball started - I am just late

So our softball season finally began with our first game in Clay Center on a Thursday evening. It was beautiful outside and perfect for the first games of the season.

What made this game so fun for us was that DD #1 was playing against some of her team mates she had played with on the CC B's. Wonderful year of softball - loved some things - hate a lot of things. Hence - we didn't go back.

Anyways - Izzy pitched her first JV game in over 2 years. She did wonderful, she felt wonderful, had huge big smiles, and loved loved loved it! We lost the first game after only 5 innings ( don't ask me why - i don't know) by 1 point and the second game we won 21 to 7. I felt really bad for the CC pitcher because she was wore out! We love that little gal and her family and I hope that her arm recovers! It is a tough thing for a pitcher to stand out there and pitch a game when you are down and behind so far and get no back up from the "team" players. I know.

and so here is a pic -

The next night we played Abilene! We knew they were tough - because we have played them previously in traveling softball adventures. Needless to say - we were spanked. Izzy pitched some of the 2nd game of the night then also. She did fine - the girls just couldn't seem get the pitching going. They stood strong and tall and held their heads high - it was a very quiet bus ride home - or so I heard.

Follow-up to our weekend

I will start with this past Friday. Even though Isabella didn't play Friday night we think it is important to support the team. We traveled to Hoyt - It was COOOOOOLD! Bundled up the parents watched as our girls played an awesome first game of the season and won the first one! Our second game was even COOOOOLDER and we couldn't get out of the first inning slump. It was OK though - we had awesome plays and it was a joy to watch. We didn't get home till late but we did get to stop at the Frozen Custard place in Manhappiness and have supper. YUM!

Tonight Varsity plays and I hope all that can will go and support them. I have a little one at home with school tomorrow so I won't be traveling to it.

Saturday was an eventful day - Charles went to an auction in Nebraska, Isabella had Forensics in JC and was up and going early also. Cierra had tutoring in Manhattan - sooooo - we all dragged butt out of bed and got to where we needed to go. Charles got a few parts and a parts tractor, Cierra did very well at tutoring and I helped clean out a storage room here at work while she was there, and Izzy did very well at Forensics. She called me so I made the trip from MHK to JC to pick her up.

Sunday was pretty quiet - we did I think 8 loads of laundry, ate lunch in CC at El Puerto, visited our friend Crazy John, and came home. Had a big plate of homemade Chicken Fried Steak and Mashed taters and Gravy. Yumm!

JV Games at CC were cancelled last night due to the severe cold- Let me be very clear of this - THANK YOU! I love my daughter - but sitting in the cold for six hours just ain't gonna work. JV plays at home Thursday night. Please come watch if you can!

Softball

So today is the official first day of softball. The varsity team travels to Royal Valley which is in Hoyt, KS.

Not even thinking about scheduling I am double booked on Mondays. DD #2 has tutoring in Manhattan on Mondays and that is when the JV team that I hope DD #1 will be playing on plays their games. Oh well. I am a nervous wreck anyways when I watch her play - so it will all be good and well I hope. Monday night in the JV game for softball and baseball in Clay Center. I hope all that can will come and support both teams.

The snow yesterday was a wicked one. I started off to work and turned around and came back. It took me 20 mins to go two miles and back home. I hope that doesn't happen again for awhile. I know we need the moisture - but really - my yard is startig to feel like a wet sponge.

Hopefully I will have pics from the Game tonight to post later and results! Go Falcons!
